Ghosh Yoga

Bishnu Ghosh was born in Lahore, India in 1903.  He is the younger brother of the famous yogi Paramahansa Yogananda, author of 'Autobiography of a Yogi'. Bishnu wanted yoga to be accesible to everyone, so that everyone can benefit from yoga. In his system there are 84 postures. Ghosh used asana, pranayama, bandha and weight lifting exercises to strengthen the body and increase "muscle control." 

Bishnu Ghosh was the teacher of Bikram Choudhury. Bishnu send Bikram first to Japan and later Bikram went to the United States in the 1970s. Bikram founded yoga studios that eventually became the Yoga College of India. He developed a system of 26 postures to be practiced in 90 minutes in a heated room. The Bikram Yoga serie is a proven therapeutic hatha yoga serie. 

In the Ghosh yoga classes you work on gaining strength, flexibility and balance. The attenion is focussed on arm strength, but also on abdominal, back and leg muscle strength and opening of the hips. The Ghosh yoga classes are complementary on your Bikram Yoga classes. 

The Ghosh yoga class is suitable for students who have praciced Bikram Yoga for a longer period of time. To participate in this class, you need to have taken at least 60 Bikram Yoga classes at Bikram Yoga Arnhem. Besides reservations are compulsary. Reservations can be made by email or at the front desk. You will receive a confirmation from us to partake in the Ghosh Yoga classes.

The Ghosh yoga class is not part of the introduction week offer.

9:30  - 12:00     The basics of Practice: Building a Strong Foundation

Description of the workshop: We are always practicing something. Often we are building bad habits that we don't realize and moving farther away from the goals of our practice.
In this workshop, we refine the basics of our practice to make sure we are on the right path. We will look into how to practice for maximum gain.
After talking about practice techniques, we will focus on how to breathe correctly and how to correctly use our muscles.
You will leave with your postures feeling easier, a better understanding of where to focus your effort and with an understanding of how to make progress.

The workshop consists of a lecture, Q & A and a full practice.

This workshop is suitable for all levels.


13:00  - 15:30    Refining your Practice: Understanding the Purpose

Description of the workshop: Knowing how to practice is the first step to progress and a lifelong relationship with yoga. In the first workshop, we learned how to practice. Here we learn why.What are the benefits of the postures? What is the purpose of a yoga practice? Why is it important to know why we do what we do?We will answer these questions as we go through postures and practices. We will refine physical concepts like backward bending and forward bending, balance and open our minds to how yoga has been thought of throughout time.

The workshop consists of a lecture, Q & A and a full practice.

This workshop is suitable for all levels.

9:30  - 12:00 uur     Advancing Your Practice: Intermediate + Pranayama

Description of the workshop: Progress beyond beginning practices and concepts with this 2,5 hour immersion. We will discuss what it means to be an intermediate and more advanced yogi, including practice philosophy and how to use the body and mind with more detail.
Asana practice work toward Arm Balancing & Inversion, Full Backbending, and Leg Behind the Head. Practice will conclude with Pranayama: breathing exercises that are the next step beyond Asana in a yogi's progress.

This workshop is suitable for people with more yoga experienc. You must have taken at least 20 or more Bikram Yoga classes. 


13:00 - 15:30 uur   Yoga Therapeutics: Back Pain & Stress Reduction

Description of the workshop: Therapeutic exercises are simple body movements to improve functional health, strength and range of motion.
This workshop will focus on bringing stability and relief to the spine, especially the lower back.
Also we will focus on calming the body, breath and mind, reducing stress and creating a restful state. Learn how to recognize and manage pain in your everyday life, and also how to calm yourself at bedtime or in stressful situations.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, elderly, people without any yoga experience and yoga teachers. Take family / friends with you who are suffering from pain or have complaints. 

About Ida Jo en Scott Lamps

This workshop is taught by Scott Lamps and Ida Jo. They are Yoga Acharyas (Masters of Yoga). Scott and Ida Jo are the head teachers of Ghosh Yoga, traveling all over the world to teach yoga as well as deepen their own study and practice. meer informatie over Ghosh Yoga zie website.

The workshops cost 30 euro each.
